Pregnancy, Sensitivity & the Body
When the body asks for safety
Many women believe that massage is not recommended during pregnancy.
And in part, this comes from a real precaution.
In the early months, the body is adjusting.
Protecting.
Transforming quietly.
So we slow down.
We avoid certain things.
But what is often forgotten
is that the need for contact… does not disappear.
It is there, from the very beginning.
A hand resting gently.
A soft presence.
A slow, respectful touch.
Nothing dramatic.
And yet…
The body understands.
Because touch is not just a gesture.
It is a language.
A message sent directly to the nervous system : YOU ARE SAFE
What happens within
When the body feels safe,
something shifts.
The breath deepens.
The muscles soften.
And more deeply still…
The body begins to rebalance itself.
Cortisol,
the hormone linked to stress,
starts to decrease.
Oxytocin,
the hormone of connection, softness,
and safety… begins to rise.
This is not something to force.
It happens naturally
when the body no longer needs to stay on guard.
Massage during pregnancy
is not only about relaxation.
It is a space.
A space where the body
has nothing to do
nothing to manage
nothing to carry
A space where it can:
slow down
settle
and sometimes…
simply fee l : “I am supported.”
Every pregnancy is different.
Every body is different. Touch adapts.
It listens.
It follows.
It supports.
It never forces.
Touch is not a luxury
During pregnancy,
everything becomes more intense.
Sensations. Emotions. Perception.
The body changes quickly.
And the nervous system opens…
Sometimes more than it can hold.
And in this state,
the body does not need more stimulation.
It needs something else. Safety.
Slowing down. Releasing. Returning to oneself.
Touch allows this.
Without effort. Without explanation.
Just… by being there.
Some women describe it simply as:
“I feel like I come back into my body.”
Finding balance
The body is constantly moving between two states:
Adapting.
Or releasing.
Holding.
Or letting go.
When stress remains for too long,
the body stays in alert.
Even at rest.
And then, you may feel…
Fatigue that doesn’t lift.
Tension in the shoulders.
Pressure in the chest.
Digestive discomfort.
Sleep that doesn’t truly restore.
These are not random symptoms.
They are signals.
Signals the body has been sending…
for a while already.
Conclusion
During pregnancy,
the body does not need more control.
It needs more safety.
And sometimes,
that safety comes simply through:
a presence
a touch
a space where everything can slow down
Because caring for a pregnant woman
is not only about supporting her body.
It is also about nurturing the environment
in which life is growing.
If you feel the need to slow down,
to reconnect with your body,
or simply to be held in a calm and supportive space…
You are very welcome to reach out.
